“Mandy,” Lily piped up suddenly during dinner that windy Monday, “how do you realise that a certain man is the love of your life?”

Mandy looked at her incredulously.

“Do I look like the kind of girl that’s fit for answering that?” she asked her friend in return.

“Well, people do come to you for love advice anyway, don’t they?” Lily said, returning to her pork chops as Amanda continued to look at her. Suddenly though, she raised one eyebrow and smirked.

“Why are you asking me this?” Amanda said slowly, her grin widening.

“I was just curious,” Lily answered, now eating faster as a bright magenta colour appeared in her cheeks.

“Yeah, right…” Amanda whispered, more to herself than to Lily. “Curious about what might be happening between you and James…”

“I heard that,” Lily hissed.

“So did I,” a voice said behind them. Amanda and Lily whirled around, and saw a beaming James staring back at them, flanked by the rest of the Marauders. “What were you saying, Evans, dear?”
